Coding Auditor supports a simple and straightforward auditing process:

Sampling

1. Sampling

The system administrator prepares the data for audit:

  • Import the hospital data

  • Optionally filter the data to reduce the number of records

  • Generate a smaller statistical sample dataset from the hospital data, using either a random or a stratified method.

Coding

2. Auditing

The auditors perform the auditing:

  • Coding — The auditor codes each episode record in the sample dataset.

Grouping

  • Grouping — The system automatically calculates the DRG for each episode record is, based on the episode’s ICD clinical codes.

Compare

  • Comparing — The auditor reviews each record individually using the double-column layout to compare the auditor codes against the original hospital codes. Differences are highlighted using a color system. The auditor then summarizes the errors found for that record, for analysis reporting.

3. Reporting

The results from the audit process can be viewed through many different reports, which allow progressive drill-downs on the information — from a high level summary down to the individual patients and ICD codes.
