St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne finds PowerHealth Solutions' scheduling function saves weeks of backbreaking process of data preparation, enabling the hospital to move from 6-monthly to weekly reporting.
As a non-government and not-for-profit organisation, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne relies heavily on its clinical costing system, PowerPerformance Management, to keep their business finances healthy by tracking and analysing patient care costs.
Unlike other systems, PowerPerformance Management's inbuilt Scheduler runs scheduled tasks without human intervention, such as performing data extracts and generating automated reports over the weekend ready for human analysis on Monday morning.
Health Information Manager, Ms Helen Rizzoli is thrilled with how the Scheduler has changed the way she works.
The Scheduler in PowerPerformance Management has significantly simplified our data preparation for analysis. Each week, the Scheduler copies our database tables from our main hospital systems on Friday and processes the data over the weekend. Instead of facing many days of processing, I find myself ready to go straight into data analysis on Monday morning.
Previously, we processed our data every 6 months to report on the Cost Weight Study and on high level reports, and we spent 4 weeks each year doing that.
Now we report on a weekly basis and this is a HUGE improvement for us at St Vincent's. It significantly improves our ability to produce clinical costing information using extremely lean resources. Data is now more timely and year-to-date analysis has become a valuable tool.
With the elimination of the manual processing, Helen can now focus on true analysis to identify opportunities for channelling resources, as well as identifying problem areas to be targeted. The hospital benefits with the improvement of its services through wisdom learned from the analysis.
PowerHealth Solutions director, Patrick Power's vision is to help all hospitals to run efficiently and improve productivity, using information technology to empower hospital executives.
Our toolset is designed to automate tedious tasks. Our customers can look forward to going into the office, ready to tackle the real business rather than spend precious time on processing data.
