South Australian software developer Power Solutions has vanquished major US vendors to win a tender to supply NorthBay Healthcare, CA, with its web-based decision support system.
Two NorthBay acute care facilities — NorthBay Medical Center and NorthBay VacaValley Hospital, both in upper Solano County — will implement PowerCost Manager (PCM) to monitor and manage patient care costs.
PCM is a web-based decision support solution that provides hospital administrators and clinicians with easy access to detailed cost accounting and casemix information.
Henry A. Kotula, FHFMA, CPA, director of finance for NorthBay Healthcare, said PCM was selected because the technology proved to be both technically superior and easy to use.
PCM eliminates the technical struggle required by previous generation costing products, Mr. Kotula said. From a personnel point of view, less time is spent on building the data, leaving more time for analysis.
We are in the process of changing our core systems and PCM’s embedded integration engine was a very important factor in our decision process. Our IT department was very impressed with its flexibility.
Power Solutions Director Patrick Power said that NorthBay Healthcare had been one of thousands of US hospitals that relied on legacy decision support systems because there were few alternatives.
Our technology moves hospitals into the new era of web-based healthcare decision support systems, Mr. Power says.
PCM provides hospitals with the kind of functionality usually only seen in large teaching hospitals, at a price smaller hospitals can afford, made even more attractive by the favorable US exchange rate with Australia.
Power Solutions is currently negotiating a distribution agreement with a specialist US healthcare consulting firm to provide implementation, training and support for its US based customers.
The new partnership builds on Power Solutions’ existing partnerships with Bearing Point (formerly KPMG Consulting) and Cap Gemini New Zealand (formerly Ernst & Young Consulting).
