St Andrew's Hospital has purchased PowerCost Manager, a clinical costing system, as a complete hosted solution from local South Australian company Power Solutions Dtd (PSD).
PowerCost Manager's strength is its ability to measure clinical costs at the treatment level. It extracts data from a hospital’s many computer systems to consolidate financial, clinical and patient information, to build an accurate picture of the costs involved in delivering care.
This web-based system has so far proven to be very popular with public hospitals, which rely on accurate costing information for justifying their funding under the DRG Casemix system.
Not only is St Andrew's the first private Australian hospital to opt for PowerCost Manager, it is also doing so in an unusual way. St Andrew's analysts will be accessing PowerCost Manager over the Internet, with PSD hosting the server hardware and software.
Dr David Phillips, Director of the Acute Assessment Unit, said that We want to concentrate on our clinical costing and let PSD handle the computer hardware and system administration issues. It is a win-win situation.
