KPMG Power Solutions Dtd (PSD) and KPMG Consulting have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop and license PowerCoding Auditor, a web-based clinical auditing software application for healthcare institutions in Australia and New Zealand. This joint venture leverages KPMG Consulting's clinical auditing expertise with PSD's web-based software development skills.

Patrick Power This initial relationship opens the door to a vast array of future possibilities between our two organizations, given our similar interests both domestically and overseas, in the areas of clinical auditing, patient costing and casemix reporting, said Patrick Power, one of the directors of PSD.

I see business partnerships as a way of offering clients more appropriate and complete solutions and we are pleased to be partnering with KPMG Consulting to provide hospitals with a proven application developed using the best technology that will automate and simplify their internal auditing process.

PowerCoding Auditor is an extension of a tool used by KPMG for their statewide external audits. Together, PSD and KPMG have enhanced the existing ICD clinical auditing application by making it web-based and therefore very affordable. KPMG Consulting will soon be using PowerCoding Auditor in their external audits. PSD will also be licensing PowerCoding Auditor to individual hospitals as a low-cost web service, for internal audit purposes, to improve internal ICD coding.

PowerCoding Auditor is very easy to use. It uses a stratified random sample of records for a blind coding exercise. Coding variances are both shown onscreen and described in a number of reports with drill-down functionality.

PowerCoding Auditor is relevant to all hospitals that operate within a casemix DRG system. In addition to Australian and New Zealand, it applies to any health systems that are based on the Australian-style DRG system — which includes Asia and Europe.
